The temperature has risen from about -5 to +5 degrees Centigrade since last week, but the pack-ice was still 5-10 cm thick. However, a lot can happen in just one week – Last weekend the place was teaming with incoming Whooping Swans (Cygnus cygnus) heading north for their annual migration, and this weekend there were none. The coots had arrived this week though.
Apart from that, I have nothing unusual to report. There were, as usual, lots of Greylag geese (Anser anser), Mute Swans (Cygnus olor), Gulls, a couple of Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos). The pair of Great Crested Glebes (Podiceps cristatus) that I spotted diving for food in a wake near the dam last week was there again today.
