Today I decided to drive to Vejlerne directly from work. I did not regret that. Because the weather was stormy, ducks, geese and swans were huddling together to keep warm, either on the lakes or on land.
I saw so MANY new species that it was outright scary. Even after I got home and looked at my photos, I kept finding new (to me) species. All in all, I saw:
Mallard (Anas platyrhyncos), Wigeon (Anas penelope), Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula), Goosander (Mergus merganser), Smew (Mergus albellus), Greylag Goose (Anser anser), Bean Goose (Anser fabilis), Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis), Whooping swan (Cygnus Cygnus), Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus), Coot (Fulica atra), and Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus).
Practically all of them were new to me. Indeed, the Smew, Bean Goose and Barnacle Goose are rarely seen in Denmark.
