I went on a daytrip to the Hirtshals Oceanarium today. I brought the 1D Mark IV and a really old and really vignetty EF 24mm f/2.8 lens. I actually managed to get some decent photos, although the ISO was pushed way up. I’m actually quite happy with the results, even though I did not use a flash. Although the ISO settings were scary-high, I had – obviously – no flash reflections from the glass and a LOT of keepers.
The oceanarium had lots of local fish and sea mamal species, lots of inter-active stuff, as well as web-cams from various places in the ocean around Denmark. Some several 100 km from shore. Really really amazing stuff. The main attraction were four Ocean sunfish (Mola mola) in a 2 million gallon huge aquarium. From an aviation perspective, this fish is remarkably like the Vought V-173 Flying Pancake. Who says nature didn’t invent it first?
