Mergus serrator.
Lots and lots and lots of Red-breasted Merganser (Mergus serrator) came flying in from the south today. This is the start of the arrival of the birds from Africa. The next 2-3 weeks are going to be really exciting. The Red-breasted Mergansers were flying high, fast and silent in groups of between 2 and 8 individuals. I counted over 250 birds in less than 30 minutes. Wow!
I also saw the cranes again today, foraging on a sweet corn field. I finally got some decent (not good, but decent) photos of this majestic bird.
Last but not least, I managed to get some photos of the Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) and the Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo).
